SSS Rocketry

Building and Flying model and high-power rockets


Article 1, Name: The name of this organization shall be the Superstition Spacemodeling Society (SSS), a
section of the National Association of Rocketry (NAR) and a prefecture of the Tripoli Rocketry Association
Article 2, Purpose: The following shall be the purpose of the SSS:
(a) To further the aims and purposes of the NAR and TRA in the State of Arizona,
(b) To operate and maintain a rocket range in accordance with NAR and TRA Safety Codes, and any
applicable local, state, or federal regulations,
(c) To hold meetings for the purpose of aiding and encouraging all those interested in rocketry,
(d) To engage in other scientific, educational, or related activities as the NAR, the TRA, or that the SSS
may, from time to time, deem necessary or desirable in connection with the foregoing.
Article 3, Membership: The SSS shall encourage NAR or Tripoli membership to its members. Members in
good standing, eighteen (18) years of age or older, are eligible to vote on SSS business.
Article 4, Dues: Dues shall be set by the SSS Board of Directors (BOD). SSS dues are an annual fees paid at
the time of new or renewing membership. SSS dues are separate and distinct from the national dues paid to
the NAR, TRA, or other rocketry associations. All dues become part of the SSS General Fund and are to be
paid out by the Treasurer as directed by the BOD to cover club expenses.
Article 5, Meetings: Meetings of the SSS general membership shall be held at least ten (10) times per year at
times and places designated by the SSS Board of Directors. Operation of the rocket range shall not be
considered a meeting. Meetings shall be conducted and governed by “Robert’s Rules of Order, Revised.”
Article 6, Board of Directors: The SSS Board of Directors shall consist of a total of seven (7) members all
of whom shall be eighteen (18) years of age or older; a President, a Vice President, a Secretary, a Treasurer, a
senior member of the NAR who shall serve as the NAR Section Advisor, a Tripoli member who shall serve as
the SSS Tripoli Phoenix Prefect, and a Member at Large.
Article 7, Elections: Elections of the SSS Board of Directors shall take place annually at the November
membership meeting. The BOD shall provide, by mail to the SSS membership, no less than thirty (30) days in
advance of the election meeting, instructions regarding the nomination and election of candidates. The NAR
Section Advisor and the Tripoli Prefect shall be elected by their representative members in good standing. All
members of the board shall serve a term of one (1) year, January through December. Should a vacancy on the
Board occur prior to the November election, the remaining term of office shall be filled by an SSS member in
good standing, nominated and elected by a popular vote of the members in attendance at the next scheduled
membership meeting.
Article 8, Committees: Committees may be established by the BOD to meet the needs and operational
requirements of the membership. It shall be the duty of the Vice President to oversee all committees and to
report on their operation and progress when requested by the BOD.
Article 9, Amendments: These bylaws may be amended at any membership meeting of the SSS provided
written notice of the pending amendment(s) has been sent to the membership at least thirty (30) days in advance
of the meeting. Passage of a bylaw amendment requires a two-thirds (2/3) vote of those SSS members in good
standing present at the meeting.
